Bénin - Niger : Quand Tiani remercie Talon
Nigerien President Abdourahmane Tiani is clearly not ungrateful. Through his Minister of Foreign Affairs, the leader expressed "his heartfelt and sincere thanks to the Beninese government for its solidarity and for all the assistance provided during the road accident that occurred on the night of August 16-17, 2025, on the Ouémé River bridge in Benin."
Thank you for the “diligence…”
Indeed, immediately after the accident involving this Nigerien bus, the government of President Patrice Talon mobilized all means to provide relief and assistance to the victims, evacuate the injured, find the missing persons and recover the bus from the waters of the river.
Niamey thanks the Beninese authorities for the "diligence and strong mobilization they have shown in implementing the relief system."
He said he was awaiting the "conclusions of the investigation into the causes of this tragedy."
Porto-Novo and Niamey at odds since July 26, 2023
This act of gratitude may be a first step toward warming relations between the two countries. It goes without saying that Niger and Benin have been at odds since the military came to power in Niamey on July 26, 2023.
