Burkina Faso : D’anciens responsables sanctionnés pour irrégularités financières
The Court of Auditors has issued a ruling on serious financial irregularities discovered at the Ouagadougou International Arts and Crafts Fair (SIAO) for the 2016 fiscal year, following a case referred by the High Authority for State Control and the Fight Against Corruption.
The former accountant was found guilty of failing to return over 230 million CFA francs, which he admitted to using for personal purposes. He was also cited for making payments without supporting documentation and fined.
The former manager was sanctioned for a lack of funds and unjustified releases, as was the former director of promotion, who was convicted for expenses without supporting documents.
On the other hand, the former cashier, prosecuted for complicity in the non-remittance of funds, was acquitted due to insufficient evidence.
This decision underscores the importance of transparency, traceability and good governance in the management of public finances.
