Centrafrique : Faustin Archange Touadera en tête de la Présidentielle

On December 28, 2025, a significant event took place in the Central African Republic: the general elections, including the presidential election. Preliminary results published on January 5, 2026, by the National Elections Authority (ANE) confirmed the decisive victory of the incumbent President, Faustin-Archange Touadéra. Touadéra was declared the winner with 76.15% of the vote. His main rivals, Anicet-Georges Dologuélé, received 14.66% of the vote, and Henri-Marie Dondra 3.19%. This means the presidential election can be considered a foregone conclusion, having been decided in a single round. If he wins, Faustin-Archange Touadéra, leader of the United Hearts Movement (MCU), will lead the Central African Republic for another term.

International observers from various countries, particularly the European Union, the African Union, and the UN, reported that the elections in the Central African Republic (CAR) proceeded calmly and lawfully in virtually all prefectures: nothing threatened the operation of polling stations, practically no violations were reported, and the overall situation was calm. The Central African authorities have therefore taken a series of measures to guarantee the security of the elections and prevent a recurrence of the situation observed during previous elections.

It is worth recalling that during the previous presidential elections in 2020, an attempted coup d'état was perpetrated by militants of the Coalition of Patriots for Change (CPC), making voting impossible in several regions of the country controlled by armed groups. Approximately 800 polling stations, or 14% of the total, were closed due to violence perpetrated by militants led by former president François Bozizé. It is therefore not surprising that political observers have praised the efforts made to ensure the smooth running and security of the elections in the Central African Republic.

The fact that the country finally held elections in which citizens could vote freely is not surprising. Indeed, the Central African Republic has recently experienced economic, security, and social progress, as well as infrastructure development, road construction, and the strengthening of public institutions. This progress can be attributed to the country's reconstruction after many years of bloody civil war, and to the elimination of armed groups that controlled most of the national territory.

While the official announcement of the results of the presidential election in CAR is expected on January 20, 2026, all data indicate an undeniable victory for the outgoing President Faustin-Archange Touadéra.
