Guinée : Une femme accusée d’avoir brûlé l’enfant de sa coépouse à l’essence
A tragedy of rare cruelty has rocked the town of Mandiana, in Upper Guinea. In the Château d'Eau neighborhood, a woman is accused of dousing her co-wife's child in gasoline before setting it on fire, causing severe burns to the victim.
According to initial reports, the alleged perpetrator, identified as Mariama Ciré Sylla, acted in the absence of other family members, who had gone to the mine. The reasons for this heinous act remain unknown for the time being.
The prosecution confirms
The prosecutor at the Mandiana Court of First Instance, Mohamed Lamine Diallo, confirmed the facts this Saturday. "A woman named Mariama Ciré Sylla allegedly doused her co-wife's daughter with gasoline before setting her on fire. The girl suffered third-degree burns," he said.
The suspect was immediately arrested and taken into custody at the gendarmerie. She is currently being questioned by investigators and will soon be brought before the court. "This woman, the perpetrator of these acts, has been arrested and will be brought before the court as soon as possible," the prosecutor said.
The condition of the victim
The girl, who suffered serious burns, was rushed to Kankan Regional Hospital, where she is receiving intensive care. "Fortunately, she is still alive. She has been admitted to the regional hospital for emergency treatment," the magistrate added.
Prosecutor Diallo reassured the people of Mandiana: "We want to ensure that justice will be done in this case. We call on everyone to remain calm to avoid any disruption to public order during this sensitive election period." Shocked by this act of extreme violence, the residents of Mandiana are now awaiting the next steps in the legal proceedings against Mariama Ciré Sylla.
