La journaliste libanaise Amal Khalil tuée dans une frappe israélienne dans le sud du Liban
The Lebanese Ministry of Health states that the Israeli army allegedly "pursued Amal Khalil and Zeinab Faraj, who had taken refuge after the first strike in a neighboring house, by targeting the building where they had sheltered."
Lebanese journalist Amal Khalil was killed in an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon on Wednesday. The Lebanese General Directorate of Civil Defense announced in a statement that its teams "successfully recovered the body of journalist Amal Khalil, who was martyred following an enemy strike that targeted a house in the town of Tiri."
She specifies that "search and rescue operations were carried out in the presence of the Lebanese army and the Lebanese Red Cross, and that the necessary procedures were applied in accordance with the protocols in force."
The Lebanese Ministry of Health confirmed in a statement that two Israeli strikes in Tiri resulted in two deaths and one injury.
In its statement, the ministry indicated that the Israeli army "pursued Amal Khalil and Zeinab Faraj, who had taken refuge after the first strike in a neighboring house, by targeting the building where they had sheltered."
The ministry also accuses Israel of having prevented the Red Cross from "carrying out its humanitarian mission" by throwing "a stun grenade at the ambulance and targeting it with gunfire," thus preventing the extraction of Amal Khalil, while Zeinab Faraj was taken to the hospital, along with the bodies of the two victims.
"We're waiting for you, Amal."
Earlier in the day, the pro-Hezbollah daily Al-Akhbara published an illustration of its journalist Amal Khalil, as operations continued to rescue her, trapped under the rubble in Tiri after an Israeli airstrike. The illustration was accompanied by the message: "We are waiting for you, Amal."
The Lebanese Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) said it was “outraged” that the Israeli army “apparently targeted Lebanese journalists Amal Khalil and Zeinab Faraj” in Tiri, South Lebanon, on Wednesday, warning that “continued obstruction of rescue operations by Israel could constitute a war crime.” The CPJ added that journalist Amal Khalil had received a death threat in September 2024 attributed to the Israeli army, “raising serious concerns about possible deliberate targeting.”
