Fièvre de la Vallée du Rift : And Gueusseum dénonce une gestion « calamiteuse » de l’épidémie.
29 deaths and 363 cases in one month. Faced with this worrying outbreak of Rift Valley fever, the Alliance of Autonomous Health Unions (ASAS) – And Gueusseum – is sounding the alarm and criticizing the way the Ministry of Health is managing the health crisis.
A deadly and poorly controlled epidemic
In a statement released on November 2, 2025, And Gueusseum paid tribute to the memory of the victims of Rift Valley fever, while expressing its deep concern about the scale of the situation: 29 deaths and 363 cases recorded in one month, mainly in Saint-Louis.
The union movement deplores the "flawed mechanisms" of diagnosis and treatment, particularly at the Saint-Louis regional hospital, where the majority of deaths were recorded.
According to And Gueusseum, this tragedy was nevertheless predictable. "We had already warned about the risk of compensation for this zoonotic disease, a direct consequence of meticulous and inappropriate management by the Ministry of Health," the statement reads.
A health policy deemed inconsistent
The union is challenging the government's strategy, which it accuses of neglecting the three essential pillars of the epidemic fight: mass communication, staff training and the protection of health workers, particularly head nurses.
And Gueusseum also deplores the systematic evacuation of patients to Saint-Louis, when the necessary blood transfusions could be carried out in peripheral health centers.
The movement also points to the difficulties in applying Law No. 2023-06 on blood transfusion and its implementing decree, which it says pose serious problems of hemovigilance and supply of blood in accordance with WHO standards.
Inadequate prevention and glaring contradictions
For And Gueusseum, prevention must be the cornerstone of the health response. The union denounces a "juxtaposition of programs" without real coordination and regrets that "the epicenter of the disease is located precisely in an area where the National Malaria Control Program has distributed the fewest insecticide-treated bed nets."
The movement advocates for an integrated approach based on the One Health concept, which links human, animal, and environmental health. It calls for greater synergy between health, livestock, agriculture, and environmental services, while emphasizing the crucial role of social action in raising awareness and providing support to families.
Multiple health threats
Rift Valley fever is not the only danger. According to And Gueusseum, the country also faces dengue fever and monkeypox, two diseases still poorly understood by the general public but responsible for many preventable deaths.
The union advocates for more vigorous vector control, vaccination of animals outside of epidemic periods and rigorous management of contaminated carcasses to break the chain of transmission.
A tense social climate
Beyond the health crisis, And Gueusseum points out that it remains in disagreement with the Ministry of Public Service and Labour, which it accuses of ignoring the strike notice filed since October 19.
The movement is therefore planning a sit-in on November 21, followed by a strike on November 25 and 26, 2025, to demand the implementation of the agreements signed but which have not been followed up.

Ce ministre n’est pas a la hauteur ici les malades se comptes par dizaines . Moi meme suis témoin c’est une fièvre qui attaque dangereusement tes articulations avec des maux de tête . Les icp sont débordé a Thiabakh , ndiaksao etc les lits sont tous occupés
Parler pour ne rien dire, les gens sont entrain de réagir en parfaite synergie. Partout des comités régionaux de gestion de l'épidémie ont été créés sous la supervision des autorités administratives locales.

Le système de santé est malade de syndicalisme politique et corporatiste. On ne vous entend jamais sur ce qui est de vos responsabilités individuelles, et Dieu sait que vous avez beaucoup de choses à vous reprocher. Ne serait-ce que recevoir les gens correctement, la ponctualité et l’assiduité au travail. Sans compter la défense de ces centaines de jeunes qui ont reçu leur formation en santé dans des écoles privées, sans même pouvoir passer leur examen. Une exploitation honteuse des parents qui on payé et des élèves qui ont sacrifié des années d’études et de stages ruraux et urbains. Les écoles privées ont pignon sur rue et rien ne leur arrive, vous êtes tous au courant. Seulement vous casez vos enfants et vos parents. Tout ce qui a gangrené notre système de santé vous a trouvé sur place, c’est avant l’arrivée du nouveau pouvoir. Quelles sont les statistiques pour le paludisme, la mortalité maternelle et infantile, le cancer, le diabète, les maladies rénales ? Pourquoi vous n’en parlez pas ? Face à vos graves accusations sur la fièvre de la V/R, ce sont d’abord les médecins qui sont interpellés, qu’ils se prononcent! Celui qui parle de sous-estimation à Richard-Toll devrait communiquer ses coordonnées aux autorités administratives et sanitaires.
