Goudomp : Un hôpital militaire de campagne contre le « désert sanitaire » de Sédhiou
The department of Goudomp, in the Sédhiou region, often described as a "health desert" due to the difficult access of the population to quality health care, will benefit from an exceptional medical assistance operation.
A Field Military Hospital (FMH) will be deployed in the department from December 12, 2025 to January 11, 2026.
The announcement of this initiative was welcomed by the prefect of Goudomp during a departmental development committee meeting. He pointed out that residents have to travel at least 50 kilometers between health facilities, illustrating the urgency of the situation.
The installation of this HMC is the result of a collaboration between the Ministry of the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Health.
The main mission of this Field Military Hospital is twofold: to offer free medical assistance to the population and to strengthen the capacities of local health structures.
The HMC will offer a range of 14 specialized services, providing care that is often unavailable locally. Among the services offered will be: General and Emergency Medicine, General Surgery, and Anesthesia and Intensive Care. Specialties will include: ENT, Cardiology, Gynecology, Pediatrics, etc.
This temporary intervention aims to alleviate pressure on the region's health system and provide vital care to an isolated population.
