Éducation : Le G7 durcit le ton et paralyse les cours pour 72 heures
Faced with what it calls "government inaction," the G7 (a group of the seven most representative teachers' unions) is launching a new three-day action plan. Between walkouts, total strikes, and passive resistance, teachers are demanding respect for the signed agreements.
The mobilization began on Wednesday with a general assembly followed by a work stoppage.
The climax is expected on Thursday, with a call for a total strike. Finally, to conclude this week of protest, the union is calling for a passive presence on Friday, a form of protest where teachers are present at their workplace without teaching.
The main points of contention with the government concern the fate of decision-makers. Union representatives are demanding a definitive resolution to this issue, which is creating precarious situations for a portion of the teaching staff. The elimination of the additional tax levied on salaries and promotions is central to the financial concerns of these employees.
The third demand is the continuation of degree-granting training to allow teachers to progress in their careers.
When questioned about the reasons for this hardening of positions, the G7 coordinator in Sédhiou and spokesperson for the day, Abdoulaye Diallo, did not hide his bitterness. According to him, the government is demonstrating a worrying passivity despite repeated warning signs.
"Things are not moving forward. We have already implemented three action plans without obtaining concrete answers to our concerns. This fourth action plan is a logical continuation in the face of the silence of the authorities," he insisted.
