Débordements des eaux du fleuve Sénégal à Matam : Le Comité régional de gestion des inondations déploie un plan de riposte
The situation remains worrying in Matam, where the water level is at the alert level of 8 m on September 15, 2025. To deal with possible overflows of the Senegal River waters, due to releases planned in the coming days on the Manantali dam, the Regional Flood Management Committee (CRGI) of Matam has put in place a response plan.
During a regional committee meeting held this morning at the governance, administrative and territorial authorities, technicians and several stakeholders, after sharing the results of last year's flood management, shared a response plan for future floods.
For the governor, "the operationalization of the plan, which involves concrete measures, will be carried out in the two departments (Kanel and Matam) and the districts affected by the overflowing of the Senegal River, as well as the municipalities." This plan will take charge of the concentration of efforts and the distribution of tasks according to the directorates and commissions established.
"From the regional to the municipal level, we have created commissions in which each actor already knows their role, starting with the census of resettlement sites and the means of action," Said Dia told the Senegalese Press Agency (APS).
All this, according to the governor, "is to centralize efforts to better coordinate communication and actions to be taken." Thus, "the CRGI will first identify all the threatened villages before moving the inhabitants without waiting for the flood."
It is in this sense, as noted by the head of the regional executive, that "relocation sites have already been identified", indicating that "the hygiene service will proceed with the disinfection and disinfestation of the places, to allow the populations to live there while waiting for the development of events".
For the time being, according to the governor, 17 municipalities are affected by the consequences of the overflowing river, including nine in the department of Kanel and eight in that of Matam. However, among the localities requiring special attention are "the localities of Dembancané, Lobaly and Belly Dialo, heavily impacted during last year's floods, as well as Tiguéré Ciré, Tiguéré Yenné and Diamel."
