Senegal-World Bank: Towards Strengthened Cooperation on Health, Energy and Youth Employment

Sénégal-Banque mondiale : vers une coopération renforcée autour de la santé, l’énergie et l’emploi des jeunes

The Annual Meetings of the IMF and World Bank provided an opportunity for Senegal to reaffirm its strategic partnership with the international financial institution. The Senegalese delegation, led by Cheikh Diba, Minister of Finance and Budget, met with Ousmane Diagana, World Bank Vice President for West and Central Africa.

This meeting illustrates the desire of Senegal and the World Bank to build sustainable, inclusive and results-oriented development, responding to the concrete needs of the populations, according to the Ministry of Finance which provides the information on its official pages.

Indeed, during the discussions, both parties praised the quality of the cooperation and the impact of the projects already implemented on the country's development. The World Bank announced the upcoming launch of a new country strategy, focused on three priority areas. These are:

  1. health with the development of the Pharma 2030 initiative for the local production of medicines;
  2. renewable energy and agriculture which supports the energy transition and food security;
  3. ​and youth training and employment with the Skills for Jobs program to improve employability and skills.

For his part, the Minister of Finance welcomed the constant support of the World Bank and the effective collaboration between the technical teams of the two parties.
