Situation du sénégal : l’invite du Gouverneur de la Bceao au Fmi

The Governor of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) discussed Senegal's situation this Wednesday, which is facing unprecedented levels of debt, in connection with the "misreporting" affair. On the sidelines of the Monetary Policy Committee meeting, Jean Claude Kassi Brou initially welcomed the transparency approach adopted by the current regime.

"The Senegalese authorities have been transparent, and this allows us to have the information as it exists. And once this is finalized, we have a better understanding of the debt situation," the central bank authority said. Now, he said, it will be up to the Senegalese authorities to see what needs to be done.

"I believe that's what the authorities are doing. That is, taking measures to prevent us from falling back into a situation like that. It's important. I believe that a number of measures are being taken, so we must encourage the authorities to continue in this direction," he said.

And within the framework of the discussions between Senegal and the IMF, the measures already taken or to be taken, according to the Governor of the BCEAO, allow for progress in the negotiations between the IMF and Senegal. This, in order to be able to reconnect through a new program.

Jean-Claude Kassi Brou sent a message to the IMF on this subject: "So for us, at the Central Bank, it is to invite, to encourage the IMF to ensure that we can finalize these negotiations quickly so that Senegal can return to the program as desired by the authorities."

In his opinion, this will help support the country in its reform program, supporting the vision expressed by the country to catalyze growth and development. Moreover, the governor of the BCEAO points out that Senegal is already mobilizing a lot of resources on the regional financial market.

"The macroeconomic situation is favorable, banking liquidity is adequate and this is what allows different countries, including Senegal, to mobilize resources to finance their operations and that is extremely important," he said.
