Thiès : 4 927 boutiques de détail recensées par le service du Commerce pour mieux contrôler les prix
The head of the regional trade department in Thiès, Khadim Ndiaye, announced the deployment of 100 consumer volunteers in the region to strengthen market monitoring, control state-set prices, and ensure product quality. The distribution is as follows: 40 volunteers in the department of Thiès, 40 in Mbour, and 20 in Tivaouane.

According to Khadim Ndiaye, consumer volunteers have already helped to build a significant database in the region. He announced that to date, 4,927 retail shops and 556 hardware stores have been identified. Work is also continuing for other sectors of the retail industry.
The head of the regional trade department in Thiès reports that the volunteers also conduct awareness campaigns and report irregularities to the public. He also emphasizes that their presence has improved the monitoring of retail trade, which was previously poorly covered by official surveys that primarily focused on wholesalers and semi-wholesalers.
Regarding prices, Khadim Ndiaye assures that no increase has been observed in the region. With Tabaski approaching, he reassured the public about the availability of staple goods, particularly onions, potatoes, and oil.
"Local onion stocks are estimated at 800 tonnes, compared to more than 300 tonnes for potatoes. Prices remain stable, with onions selling at 200 FCFA per kilogram and potatoes at 450 FCFA per kilogram," he says.
