Armée du Mali : Le Commandement des opérations spéciales placé sous l’autorité d’Assimi Goita
In Mali, the National Transitional Council, which serves as the Legislative Assembly, adopted a bill last August to create a Special Operations Command (COS). The bill was signed into law a few days later by the President of the Republic, Army General Assimi Goita.
The COS is a single command body under the authority of the Malian leader. It is headed by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces.
Rationalize the use of special units
According to the public service daily L'Essor, the creation of the Special Operations Command aims to place all the country's special forces units under the same command.
Indeed, feedback shows that these units suffer from a lack of coordination between them and a lack of synergy of actions and strategic autonomy.
The COS command is composed of a commander and his deputy, a special operations planning and management center made up of nine cells, and staff and divisional bodies.
Bringing together these different forces under one ground command
For the Malian Minister of Security and Civil Protection, General Daoud Aly Mohammedine, it seemed necessary to bring together these different forces under a single command so that the management of human resources, planning and the conduct of operations would be easier.
Let us remember that special forces are military units whose mission is to carry out specific tasks that conventional forces do not have the capacity to do.
