Bénin : Deux ministres démissionnent du gouvernement, après les Législatives de janvier 2026
Patrice Talon's reign is coming to an end. The Beninese president will leave office in three months. His chosen successor , Romuald Wadagni , is preparing to launch his campaign. He has not yet resigned from his position as Minister of Economy and Finance. This is not the case for his colleagues at the Ministry of Higher Education (Eléonore Yayi Ladékan) and the Ministry of Tourism (Jean-Michel Abimbola).
From the government to the National Assembly
They both asked the head of state to relieve them of their duties.
“Following their election as members of the 10th legislature, the Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and then of Tourism, Culture and the Arts, expressed to the Head of State their desire to take their seats in the National Assembly, thus complying with legal requirements. The President of the Republic has taken note of this,” declared government spokesperson Wilfried Léandre Houngbédji after yesterday’s Council of Ministers meeting on Wednesday, February 18.
Patrice Talon has appointed the Minister of Health , Benjamin Hounkpatin , to serve as interim Prime Minister in place of Eléonore Yayi Ladékan. Jean-Michel Abimbola will be replaced by the Minister of Industry and Trade, Shadiya Assouman.
