Burkina Faso : Démantèlement d'un réseau de détournement de carburant subventionné
On January 13, 2026, in Ouagadougou, the National Coordination for the Fight Against Fraud (CNLF) dismantled an organized network trafficking subsidized fuel intended for households and illegally reselling it to mining companies. The operation, carried out following thorough investigations, led to the seizure of two tanker trucks carrying 2,000 liters and 20,000 liters of diesel fuel, respectively.
The fraudsters obtained fuel from the pump at the subsidized price of 675 CFA francs per liter, before reselling the fuel to mining companies at the market price set at 1,195 CFA francs, thus making significant illicit profits at the expense of the State.
These actions constitute misappropriation of subsidies and an illegal pricing practice, punishable by sanctions provided for by the regulations in force.
The national coordinator warned that any fraud will be severely punished and called on citizens to cooperate by reporting any suspicious practices related to subsidized products.
