Burkina Faso : L'ONU engage un dialogue avec les autorités après l’expulsion de la coordonnatrice résidente
A UN delegation led by Yacoub Ali El Hillo, Regional Director for Africa, completed a three-day mission on August 27, 2025, marked by "frank and constructive" discussions with the Burkinabe authorities.
This visit comes just days after the expulsion of UN Resident Coordinator Carol Flore-Smereczniak and was aimed at resuming dialogue. Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo reaffirmed Burkina Faso's willingness to cooperate with the UN, while reiterating that this collaboration must be carried out with respect for its sovereignty and without tolerance for any legitimization of terrorism.
For his part, Yacoub Ali El Hillo stressed the United Nations' commitment to continuing a strong partnership with the country, despite "this exceptional moment," and to working alongside national authorities for the development and resilience of Burkina Faso.
