Burkina : Le capitaine Traoré remanie son gouvernement, le ministère de la Défense change de dénomination
The President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, carried out a cabinet reshuffle yesterday, Monday, January 12, 2026. Several new figures have joined the government. These include Professor Moumouni Zoungrana, appointed Minister of Secondary Education and Vocational and Technical Training, and Annick Lydie Djouma Pikbougoum, who takes over the Ministry of Sports, Youth, and Employment.
The Ministry of Defence becomes the Ministry of War and Patriotic Defence
Virtually all other members of the government have retained their positions. Some have been given more responsibilities. For example, the Minister of Infrastructure and Rural Development will also oversee the departments of Housing and Urban Planning. The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal and Fisheries Resources inherits the departments of Water, Environment, and Sanitation.
These mergers aim to reduce the size of ministerial portfolios. In fact, the number of ministries has been reduced from 24 to 22.
As part of this same reshuffle, Captain Traoré also changed the names of several ministries.
The Ministry of Defense becomes the Ministry of "War and Patriotic Defense." The Ministry of Urban Planning takes the name "Ministry of Homeland Construction." As for the Ministry of Labor, it is renamed the "Ministry of Servants of the People."
Finally, we should note the appointment of Ousmane Ouattara to the position of Minister Secretary General of the Government and the Council of Ministers.
