Bus tombé dans le fleuve Ouémé au Bénin : 26 victimes dont des Nigériens inhumés au cimetière musulman de Savè

Moments of sadness and prayers took place on Tuesday, August 19, at the Muslim cemetery in Savè (a town in central Benin). Twenty-six bodies recovered from the Ouémé River after last weekend's bus accident were buried in the presence of Niger's ambassador to Benin, Chaibou Kadade, the president of the High Council of Nigeriens, El Hadj Idrissou Garba Amadou, Beninese authorities, the victims' families, and the president of the Islamic Union of Benin (UIB), Idrissou Boukary.

6 bodies still under water

The burial prayer was said by the latter. The bodies were then buried. It should be noted that most of the victims of the accident were of Nigerian nationality.

Ambassador Kadade, President Garba Amadou and the President of Uib prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed.

These mass burials took place after the bodies were identified at the Savè district hospital.

So far, 37 bodies have been recovered from the Ouémé River. Six are still underwater. The search for them continues.
