It's an open secret. The PDCI-RDA will not participate in the presidential election on October 25 in Côte d'Ivoire. Its legitimate candidate, President Tidjane Thiam, was removed from the electoral list due to a dual nationality issue. The Ivorian courts ruled that he had lost his Ivorian nationality when he became a French citizen in 1987.
Although he renounced his allegiance to France last March, the electoral roll has not been revised to include his name again.

In an interview given this Friday, October 17, to the television channel France 24, Jean-Louis Billon, who is running for the Ivorian presidential election under the banner of the Democratic Congress (CODE), declared that the head of the PDCI had only himself to blame.
"Tidjane Thiam himself admitted that he knew neither the Constitution nor Article 48 (of the Nationality Code). So, it was his lack of preparation that simply led to his elimination," said the head of the SIFCA group.
“Let’s put our egos aside, let’s think about the Ivory Coast, the Ivorians…”
He called on the former head of Credit Suisse to rally behind his candidacy. "I think the most important thing is Ivory Coast and we must put our egos aside and achieve a great victory for the PDCI, because I remain a PDCI activist. I call on my brother Tidjane. Let's put our egos aside, think about Ivory Coast, the Ivorians, and make sure we can achieve a great victory. He can be by my side and we will work together," urged Jean-Louis Billon.
Not sure his appeal will be heard, because Mr. Thiam is not a fan of the businessman.
