Côte d’Ivoire : le Front commun PPA-CI – PDCI-RDA dénonce l’interdiction de sa marche pacifique

The PPA-CI–PDCI-RDA Joint Front has responded to the ban on the peaceful march it planned to hold this Saturday, October 4, in Abidjan. This demonstration, declared on September 29 in accordance with legal provisions, was to focus on the need for "free, transparent, and inclusive" elections and the preservation of peace in the country.

In a prefectural decree dated October 2, the authorities cited the risk of public disorder as justification for the ban. The Common Front considers the decision "unjustified" and a "serious attack on public freedoms," particularly the freedom of expression and demonstration guaranteed by the Ivorian Constitution.

"We firmly denounce this decision, which constitutes a serious attack on public freedoms, particularly freedom of expression and demonstration guaranteed by the Ivorian Constitution.

"We vigorously contest the authorities' allegations that our march was intended to challenge the decisions of the Constitutional Council. Furthermore, we have taken all necessary steps to comply with the required procedures, as the information letter was indeed sent within the legal deadlines, in accordance with the provisions governing public demonstrations. This ban therefore appears to be a political maneuver intended to silence the opposition and hinder democratic debate," a statement read.

Leaders of the PPA-CI and PDCI-RDA insist they complied with all legal procedures and reject accusations that the march was aimed at challenging the Constitutional Council's decisions. They denounce it as a political maneuver intended to silence the opposition and hamper democratic debate.

While acknowledging the prefectural measure, the Common Front announced the postponement of the march to Saturday, October 11, 2025, calling on its activists and supporters to "remain mobilized in a calm manner" until this new date. The opposition also reaffirms its "unwavering commitment to a reconciled, democratic, and peaceful Côte d'Ivoire."
