Côte d'Ivoire : Treize bus de la SOTRA réduits en cendres dans un incendie à la gare de Koumassi
A violent fire broke out on Monday, October 20, 2025, at around 4:30 a.m., at the Koumassi train station, a repair site belonging to the Abidjan Transport Company (SOTRA). Alerted, the firefighters quickly responded to the scene. Their promptness helped contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to other buses parked on the site.
Despite their efforts, the fire caused significant material damage. The provisional toll is thirteen buses burned, the majority of which were completely burned.
The police authorities immediately opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident and to identify, if necessary, any possible responsibilities.
In a press release, SOTRA reassured the public and its customers of its continued commitment to ensuring public transport under the best possible conditions of safety and regularity. The company also indicated that it remains fully mobilized, in collaboration with law enforcement, to ensure the protection of its equipment and personnel.
"In the meantime, SOTRA wishes to once again reassure all residents and its customers of its commitment to carrying out its mission of transporting people in the best possible conditions of safety and regularity. It also remains fully mobilized with the police to ensure the protection of its equipment and personnel," the company said.
Furthermore, SOTRA management called for civic-mindedness and responsibility from all, emphasizing the need to preserve buses, which are considered a common good serving the community. "Elections come and go, but our buses remain. Let's protect our buses, let's protect our future. My bus, my fight," reads the company's press release.
