Côte d’Ivoire : Un faux avocat interpellé au Tribunal, en pleine audience
In Ivory Coast, officers from the Daloa Gendarmerie's Research Section apprehended a man posing as a lawyer on Friday, January 23rd. The man, who was impersonating a lawyer, was arrested during a hearing while representing a client at the Court of First Instance in this city in the central-western region of Ivory Coast.
He was already being actively sought
According to the local press, it was the prosecutor of the court who alerted the police, suspecting impersonation. Indeed, the public prosecutor detected inconsistencies in the statements of the fake lawyer and in his understanding of legal procedures.
His instinct did not fail him, since the police confirmed that the suspect was already actively being sought following numerous complaints filed against him.
After his arrest, the 43-year-old man tried to convince investigators that he was a bailiff's clerk. As the interrogation progressed, he lost his composure, contradicting himself in various ways.
Further investigations revealed that he was neither a bailiff's clerk nor a lawyer.
Unfortunately, this fake legal practitioner took money from several litigants to supposedly ensure their defense before the country's courts and tribunals.
