« Elles m’ont toutes abandonné… » : Bokassa 1er, l’empereur qui aimait les femmes
The self-proclaimed Emperor of the Central African Republic, Jean-Bédel Bokassa, was described as an extravagant, even disconcerting, character. He had his whims, and one of his weaknesses was women. The native of Bobangui admitted it without any embarrassment.
"In Taiwan, for example, I flirted with the most beautiful girl in the country, whom I later married."
In his rather eventful life, the man known as the "13th Apostle of Christ" married 17 women. He chose most of them from among the hostesses who greeted him at the airport during his travels. This was done, of course, with the "consent of the local government," the emperor clarified in an interview with Jeune Afrique in 1984.
He boasts of having married the most beautiful women in the countries he visited. "In Formosa, for example, I seduced the most beautiful girl in the country, whom I later married. In Bucharest, the most beautiful girl in Romania, in Libreville, the most beautiful girl in Gabon, in Paris the most beautiful girl in Tunisia…and so on. My criterion was beauty," Bokassa declared.
"All 17 women I married abandoned me."
He regrets not having been able to keep all the beautiful women who shared his life. "The 17 women I married all abandoned me. Right up to the last one, the Tunisian woman, who never gave any sign of life again," the former Central African leader, now deceased, revealed.
