Gabon : Décès à 107 ans de la veuve du premier président du pays Léon Mba
She lived a very long life. Catherine Moret Mba, the widow of Gabon's first president, Léon Mba, died at the age of 107 on the night of Sunday, November 9, to Monday, November 10, 2025. She had been admitted to the Chambrier Polyclinic in Libreville for about two weeks for a stomach problem. Her condition worsened after she contracted malaria, which ultimately proved fatal.
4th wife of Léon Mba
According to 'Gabonreview', Catherine Moret Mba embodied "the continuity of an era where honor, modesty, and duty served as a moral compass." She was the fourth wife of the father of Gabonese independence. After his death in 1967, she chose not to remarry.
It is also said that she never lived in the presidential palace while her husband was alive. She preferred to live simply, far from the pomp and circumstance of power.
In August 2024, Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguéma elevated her to the rank of Grand Cross of the Order of the Equatorial Star. A significant Gabonese distinction.
