Gabon : Noureddin Bongo portait des lunettes espionnes en prison
The past few years have been trying for Noureddin Bongo and his mother, Sylvia. Following the fall of their father, Ali Bongo, in a coup d'état in August 2023, the two were imprisoned for "embezzlement of public funds, money laundering, receiving stolen goods, forgery and corruption."
It was only last May that they were released and then exfiltrated from the country, after mediation by the Angolan presidency. Now based in London, England, Noureddin proclaims everywhere that he was a victim of torture in prison, just like his mother.
He allegedly filmed guards confessing to abuse
To prove this, he produced videos he allegedly obtained using spy glasses discreetly brought into his cell. These glasses, equipped with a hidden camera, allegedly allowed him to film guards confessing to abuse, judges and prosecutors speaking openly about the accusations against him, and even a private conversation with General Oligui Nguéma.
This, in any case, is what he confided to the British tabloid The Standard in a lengthy interview. Needless to say, the Gabonese government has always dismissed these accusations of torture made by Noureddin and his mother Sylvia.
