Gabon : Oligui Nguéma charge Ali Bongo et sa famille devant Emmanuel Macron
On a tour of the African continent, French President Emmanuel Macron visited Gabon yesterday, Sunday, November 23, 2025. This visit aims to "strengthen and renew" the bilateral partnership between France and this Central African country.
Macron was greeted upon his arrival by his Gabonese counterpart, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguéma. He then received military honors before traveling with his host to the Palais Bord de Mer (the nickname for the Gabonese Presidency).
The two heads of state held a private meeting followed by a joint press conference.
"Irresponsible and opaque management" »
During this exercise, President Oligui Nguéma bluntly accused Ali Bongo of having left Gabon with an "abysmal debt".
"My government inherited an abysmal debt, the result of irresponsible and opaque management, all orchestrated by Ali Bongo Ondimba, his wife Sylvia and his son Noureddin, who is now a fugitive in London and refuses to appear before the courts of our country," charged Oligui Nguéma.
He said he wanted to rely on judicial cooperation between France and Gabon "so that court decisions are enforced and the misappropriated assets are returned to the Gabonese people."
