Guinée - Présidentielle 2025 : Le compte à rebours se resserre, plus que 14 jours pour les candidats
The countdown is accelerating for the contenders for the 2025 Guinean presidential election. With voters due to go to the polls in 69 days, on December 28, 2025, candidates have only 14 days left to officially submit their candidacy papers.
According to Article 128 of the Electoral Code, "candidacies shall be filed with the registry of the Constitutional Court (replaced for the presidential election by the Supreme Court) no later than 55 days before the election date."
This legal deadline now puts pressure on all political actors wishing to seek the highest office.
To date, some sixty candidacies have already been announced to the General Directorate of Elections (DGE). However, one question remains at the heart of the debate: that of the candidacy of General Mamadi Doumbouya.
Although the new Constitution, adopted on September 21, 2025, has removed the legal obstacles that could have hindered a possible candidacy of the Head of State, the latter still maintains the suspense.
In the streets of Conakry, this expectation is fueling popular impatience. Increasing numbers of citizen mobilizations are openly calling for the general to declare himself a candidate. On Monday, October 20, women blocked the highway at the Madina Bridge to demand his official nomination. A similar movement took place in Kaloum last weekend.
Despite this popular pressure, General Doumbouya appears to maintain control of his political agenda. However, according to some indiscretions, the head of state could end the suspense and formalize his candidacy as early as this week.
The countdown has begun.
