Guinée: trois écolières périssent noyées dans un marigot au quartier Laminaya
Tragedy struck Coyah. Three sixth-grade girls drowned in a stream in the Laminaya neighborhood of Coyah. This tragedy plunged the entire community into deep sorrow and grief.
The victims, Batouly Bah, Foulématou Bangoura and Aissata Camara, were all students at the Kenkéten primary school, according to information reported by the SeneWeb Guinea correspondent on site.
When questioned, Jean Yombouno, deputy director of the Kenkéten primary school, recounted the circumstances of this tragedy:
“Because of the presidential inauguration ceremony, we asked the children to go home. But several girls, instead of going home, went to the stream to swim. The first one went into the water, while the others stayed on the bank. At one point, they saw that she was drowning. Trying to save her, two others also stayed in the water. Other children went to alert the residents. Several young people arrived, but no one dared to go down, because it was said that there was an octopus in that part of the stream. Finally, a courageous young man took the risk of going in and, with God's help, he managed to pull the bodies out,” he recounted.
Alerted, the security services went to the scene to conduct the standard investigation. The victims' bodies were then released to their respective families. The burial took place after the 5 p.m. prayer in an atmosphere of profound grief.
This tragedy serves as yet another reminder of the need to raise awareness among children about the dangers of swimming in unsafe environments, especially during this period of intense heat.
