«Je ne dois pas avoir faim » : un docker condamné pour le vol d’une sangle de sécurité
Mouhamed G. (49 years old), a docker at the Autonomous Port of Dakar and a day laborer at Grimaldi since 2002, appeared this Thursday before the Dakar Court of Flagrant Offenses for the theft of a safety strap worth 2,000 CFA francs.
Caught red-handed trying to hide the strap in his cap, the father explained that he wanted to sell it to buy food, citing his diabetes and financial difficulties, reports L'Observateur, which attended the hearing.
According to the same source, the prosecutor noted that the company had been subject to recurring thefts for five years and requested a two-year suspended sentence, considering that the accused was not a first-time offender. Despite the defense of his lawyer, who pleaded mitigating circumstances, the court followed the prosecution's indictment.
The forty-year-old was found guilty of simple theft and sentenced to two years' suspended imprisonment and a fine of 50,000 CFA francs.
