Jour de référendum : Les Guinéens ont (encore) rendez-vous avec l’histoire
This Sunday, September 21, 2025, Guineans will go to the polls to vote on their country's fundamental law. More than 6.5 million voters are expected to vote "yes" or "no" on the draft new constitution, with the major issue remaining the turnout rate.
This is the first election since the putsch that overthrew Alpha Condé in September 2024, ending his 11-year reign. To ensure the transparency of the vote, the authorities established the General Directorate of Elections (DGE), and more recently the National Election Supervisory Body (ONASUR), and announced the deployment of helicopters to distribute electoral materials in the most difficult-to-access areas.
The state, on its guard, has also planned the deployment of 45,000 agents, drones, fast boats on the coast, and combat helicopters to anticipate any scenario. This show of force is a reminder that the issues at stake in this referendum remain more relevant than ever.
