Khossanto : trois orpailleurs périssent dans un éboulement sur un site clandestin abandonné
A tragedy occurred in the Khossanto forest, located in the Sabodola district (Kédougou), where a deadly landslide struck an illegal gold mining site that had been abandoned for over a year. The toll is heavy: three people lost their lives.
According to information gathered on site, the victims, identified as Lassy Keïta (35 years old), Aliou Diallo (24 years old), and Falekè Diallo (27 years old), all gold miners residing in Khossanto, reportedly went to the site around 4:00 a.m. in search of gold. Their prolonged absence quickly raised concerns among their fellow citizens.
They decided to go to the site to inquire about their situation. Upon arrival, they noticed a large rock had fallen and a bag belonging to the gold miners had been left nearby. In a show of solidarity, they began clearing the rubble. It was then that they discovered the lifeless bodies of their compatriots beneath the debris.
Alerted, members of the Khossanto territorial brigade went to the scene to carry out the usual investigations, accompanied by the head nurse of the Khossanto post.
On the instructions of the Public Prosecutor, the remains were made available to the Malian community established in Khossanto.
This new accident raises the issue of the dangers of illegal gold mining, particularly on abandoned sites, and calls for increased vigilance from authorities and communities in the face of the risks involved.
