Le Rwanda devient partenaire d'équipes de NBA et de NFL, une première pour un pays africain
Rwanda announced on Monday the signing of a partnership agreement to promote tourism with the Los Angeles Clippers (NBA) and the Los Angeles Rams (NFL), becoming the first African country to engage with these two major American leagues.
"Visit Rwanda," the brand of the Rwanda Development Council, will appear as the exclusive sponsor on the Clippers' jerseys, while the Los Angeles Rams' home stadium will also feature its logo.
"This commitment allows us to bring Rwanda's unparalleled natural beauty and extraordinary biodiversity to the people of Los Angeles and to NBA and NFL fans around the world," said Jean-Guy Afrika, CEO of the Rwanda Development Council, in a statement that did not specify the financial terms of the agreement.
Rwanda has long promoted itself as a hub for major sporting events and a leading ecotourism destination, part of its efforts to attract investors to the East African country scarred by the 1994 Tutsi genocide.
In 2018, Rwanda became the official tourism partner of English football club Arsenal, with the "Visit Rwanda" logo appearing on the sleeves of the players' jerseys. Kigali has also signed agreements with other football clubs, such as Paris Saint-Germain, and is vying to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix.
The country, which has been ruled for 25 years by Paul Kagame, whom his detractors accuse of ruling with an iron fist, has just organized the World Cycling Championships, which took place without a hitch over ten days in Kigali and the surrounding area.
