Législatives en Côte d’Ivoire : Le duel des Thiam n’aura finalement pas lieu à Yamoussoukro
In Côte d'Ivoire, the Thiam family is deeply involved in politics. Almost all of them have held high-ranking positions in the country. Abdel-Aziz and Tidjane served as government ministers. Their older brother, Augustin, is the current Minister-Governor of Yamoussoukro. He is a staunch supporter of the ruling party, the RHDP, and is also a candidate in the December legislative elections in Yamoussoukro.
To oppose him, the PDCI, led by Tidjane Thiam, had wanted to position his sister Yamousso Thiam. But he ultimately backtracked.
She is said to be Franco-Ivorian
Indeed, according to the daily newspaper "L'Avenir," the party felt that she "had low profile among its grassroots members." But this is only the official version, because the unofficial one concerns her dual French-Ivorian nationality. Yamousso is reportedly listed among the French citizens residing in Ivory Coast.
To avoid him suffering the same fate as his younger brother Tidjane, the PDCI has decided to exclude him, the newspaper reports.
It should be recalled that the head of the PDCI had been removed from the electoral list because of a dual nationality case.
