L’UEMOA renforce l’interopérabilité financière avec 62 acteurs désormais connectés au paiement instantané
The BCEAO has expanded the list of institutions authorized to use the Instant Payment, Interoperable Payment System (PI-SPI) in the WAEMU region, increasing from 45 to 62 players across the eight member countries. This expansion reflects significant progress towards a more fluid, secure, and accessible payments system for all citizens and businesses in the region.
Senegal stands out with 15 institutions already active in the system, highlighting the country's leading role in regional financial modernization. Three banks, Coris Bank, Ecobank, and Orabank, stand out for their cross-border coverage and strong presence in all member states.
The expansion of the PI-SPI aims to gradually integrate all WAEMU payment institutions, allowing customers to transfer funds instantly between banks, fintechs, and mobile money operators. This initiative strengthens financial inclusion, reduces transaction costs, and paves the way for a more integrated and dynamic regional market.
Ultimately, the development of this system aims to make interoperability a pillar of the digital transformation of the banking sector and a lever of competitiveness for the entire West African Economic and Monetary Union.
