Malian Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs, General Sadio Camara, visited the Sévaré airbase late last week. The high-ranking officer delivered Bayraktar Akinci drones to the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Major General Oumar Diarra.
These aircraft, manufactured by the Turkish firm Baykar, are high-altitude, long-endurance strategic drones. They are capable of carrying an inherent payload of 1,500 kg.
Powered by two turboprop engines that allow it to reach a top speed of 361 km/h
Technically, the Bayraktar Akinci is distinguished by a wingspan of 20 meters and an endurance of over 24 hours. It is powered by two turboprop engines that allow it to reach a maximum speed of 361 km/h. The aircraft is also beyond the range of homemade and portable air defense systems.
Needless to say, this is a significant acquisition for the Malian army, which continues to equip itself to meet the security challenges posed by terrorist groups.
"We will hunt you down to your last hiding place."
In his address, Minister Camara emphasized the strengthening of the Malian armed forces under the regime of General Assimi Goita. He invited the misguided brothers (the terrorists) to return to the Republic because no "sanctuary, no cave will now be able to shield them from the vigilance of drones."
"We will hunt you down to your last hiding place," he promised them.
It should be noted that, apart from drones, the Kati military base received last Saturday armored combat vehicles, heavy artillery pieces, missile launchers, state-of-the-art reconnaissance vehicles, cannons and howitzers, among other things.
