Mali : Décès d’un ancien Premier ministre
Mali is in mourning. The country learned this Wednesday, October 15, of the death of former Prime Minister Soumana Sako. The deceased was one of the key figures in Malian political life.
He served as Finance Minister under Moussa Traoré from 1986 to 1987. After the leader's overthrow in 1991, Amadou Toumani Touré, who chaired the Transitional Committee for the Salvation of the People (CTSP), appointed him Prime Minister. In this capacity, he led the transitional government from 1991 to 1992.
He is working to bring down IBK
A presidential candidate in 1997, he eventually retracted his statement to denounce fraud. During the 2002 and 2007 presidential elections, Soumana Sako supported the candidacy of his former boss, President Amadou Toumani Touré.
In August 2020, he worked to bring down President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, within the June 5 Movement-Rally of Patriotic Forces.
A brilliant intellectual
The deceased held a bachelor's degree from the National School of Administration, a master's degree in project management planning and a doctorate in development economics from the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, with honors. He was born in Nyamina in December 1950.
