Mali : L’ex-Premier ministre Choguel Kokalla Maïga placé en garde à vue
Choguel Kokalla Maïga, the former Malian prime minister, was taken into custody on Tuesday.
According to his lawyer, Cheick Oumar Konaré, after being questioned on Friday, August 1st by the National Economic and Financial Unit, he was summoned again this Tuesday, August 12, 2025, before the same unit. This, with a view to confronting some of his former colleagues.
"Arriving at the Pôle at 9 a.m., he waited until 2 p.m. without the announced confrontations taking place. Ultimately, the brigade officers formally notified him of his placement in police custody, pending the transmission of the file to the competent authorities," the black robe reported in a press release.
The custody measure also affects several of his former collaborators, notably his former chief of staff, Professor Issiaka Ahmadou Singaré, and three former administrative and financial directors of the Prime Minister's office, the same source continues.
This police custody comes as part of an investigation into allegations of damage to public property issued by a report from the Auditor General.
