Maroc : 12 migrants, dont deux Guinéens, retrouvés morts près de la frontière algérienne
Twelve migrants from sub-Saharan Africa were found dead between December 6 and 12, 2025, in northeastern Morocco, near the Algerian border. The information was confirmed on Monday, December 15, by AFP, citing the Association for Assistance to Migrants in Vulnerable Situations (AMSV). Among the victims were two Guinean nationals: a woman and a young man around 20 years old.
According to the president of AMSV, Hassan Ammari, six bodies were discovered on December 6 in the province of Jerada, before a second discovery of six more bodies was made on December 12.
The association believes these migrants were either trying to reach other North African countries or had just crossed the Algerian border into Morocco. Several of them are believed to have died from cold and hunger, as temperatures can drop as low as -5°C between November and January.
AMSV also warns of a ditch dug on the Algerian side, 4.5 meters wide and 4 meters deep, topped with a high fence on the Moroccan side. This ditch, intended to prevent crossings, becomes a death trap during the rainy season. "It's a death trap," laments Hassan Ammari, stating that several migrants drown there every year, trapped by the mud.
These new tragedies serve as yet another reminder of the extreme conditions faced by sub-Saharan migrants on their journey into exile.
