Six other people were injured to varying degrees in the collapse of this four-story residential building, located in a peripheral area of the city, according to the same sources, cited by the official MAP agency.
In some outlying districts of Fez, many buildings are erected without respecting the applicable building standards.
Search operations are continuing to try to rescue "other people who may be trapped under the rubble," local authorities said.
The area around the accident has been secured and residents of the adjacent buildings have been evacuated as a precaution.
An investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances and causes of the disaster.
In early December, 22 people were killed in the collapse of two adjoining buildings in Fez, the worst accident of its kind in the country in recent years.
Also in Fez, nine people died in May 2025 when a residential building collapsed. In February 2024, five people also died when a house collapsed in the old city.
