Niger : Le débat sur le CFA ressurgit après les attaques terroristes au Mali
Niger's civil society has firmly condemned the terrorist attacks that devastated Mali on April 25, 2026. This was expressed in a statement read at the Djado Sékou Cultural Center in Niamey on April 30 by Effred Mouloul Al'Hassan, Secretary General of the Union of Nigerien Students (USN).
“In these moments of sorrow, we express our total, sincere, and active solidarity to the Malian people, their authorities, and their defense and security forces. We bow respectfully before the memory of all the victims of these attacks and express our deepest condolences to their grieving families,” declared the Secretary General of the USN. He believes these terrorist attacks are part of a broader strategy to destabilize the member countries of the AES Confederation.
The goal is to "slow down, or even break, the dynamic of sovereignty undertaken by (these States)," he asserted, arguing for a break with certain influences deemed incompatible with the sovereignty of the three Sahelian countries.
"We strongly affirm that the CFA franc is today an instrument of dependence."
He specifically mentions the need to rethink economic and monetary relations, and calls for the acceleration of mechanisms leading to the creation of a single currency for the ESA.
According to the spokesperson for the Forces vives du Niger, it is absolutely necessary to put an end to the CFA franc.
“We strongly affirm that the CFA franc, as a legacy of a colonial monetary system, is today an instrument of dependence and imperialist domination. Its total questioning is a historical necessity in this context of the refounding of our states in the ESA,” declared Effred Mouloul Al'Hassan.
The man ultimately expressed his support for the people of Mali.
"You are not alone. Niger stands with you. The vital forces of Niger stand with you. The people of the AES stand with you," he declared.
