Diomaye Faye appelle à une refonte morale du secteur extractif
On November 4, 2025, at the 8th International Mining Exhibition in Diamniadio, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye called on mining companies to place ethics and responsibility at the heart of their practices. He emphasized the need for a cultural transformation within the sector, where the exploitation of natural resources contributes to social justice and environmental sustainability.
The Head of State emphasized that economic growth cannot come at the expense of local populations. He encouraged the equitable redistribution of mining benefits and ongoing dialogue with communities to strengthen the social acceptability of projects. In the context of global energy transitions, he positioned Senegal as a strategic player in the green transition, stressing the importance of responsible and sovereign management of resources such as lithium and zircon.
This approach highlights the idea that mining can become a driver of sustainable development, capable of stimulating employment, local added value, and technological innovation, while respecting the environment and strengthening social cohesion. The president called for a shared commitment between public and private stakeholders and civil society to integrate the sector into a dynamic of inclusive and responsible growth.
