Nigeria : Deux religieux musulmans jetés en prison pour avoir infligé des blessures à des enfants apprenant le Coran
In Nigeria, the Ondo State Magistrates' Court has remanded two Muslim religious leaders in custody for allegedly abusing children who came to learn the Quran at Islamic centers in the city of Owo. Oladejo Musiliu and Adebodun Muideen are accused of using red-hot machetes on the boys' backs and buttocks, inflicting deep wounds, according to security services.
The two Muslim religious figures have been charged with inflicting serious bodily harm.
The injuries were discovered by one of the teachers of these students, who also attend classes at a school in the city. The teacher alerted a children's rights organization, which then reported the incident to the police.
The two Muslim religious figures are charged with causing serious bodily harm. They are currently being held in the Olokuta correctional facility.
The court ordered that the victims be placed in a government-approved children's home until their parents demonstrate their ability to adequately care for them. The trial of the two religious leaders is scheduled to begin on April 9.
