Présidentielle-2026 au Bénin : Talon rencontre Boni Yayi en difficulté après le rejet des dossiers du duo-candidat de son parti
In Benin, President Patrice Talon met with his predecessor, Boni Yayi, on the morning of Friday, October 24, at the Marina Palace in Cotonou. No official statement was issued following the discussions between the two men.
According to BIP Radio, which reported the information, Talon and his host spoke behind closed doors, away from the cameras.
The difficulties encountered by the opposition party, The Democrats, were certainly at the heart of the discussions between the two personalities.
The Sodjinou problem
This political party, led by Boni Yayi, has been temporarily excluded from the presidential race in April 2026 due to the qualms of one of its MPs. The elected representative, under the name of Michel Sodjinou, refused to grant his sponsorship to his party's duo of candidates, arguing that they had been appointed following "manipulation and a lack of consultation."
He then filed a petition with the Cotonou court to cancel the sponsorship form already submitted to the party president. The court expressly granted his request.
The Democrats, disgruntled, filed a constitutional challenge to the order of the judge who issued the decision. In a ruling published yesterday, Thursday, the seven wise men indicated that they did not have jurisdiction to hear the case.
It is through "dialogue" that Benin will organize "general, inclusive and peaceful elections"
In a statement announcing the meeting with his successor, Boni Yayi said the court's decision had created "tensions and misunderstandings within the nation." With this in mind, he and Talon reportedly agreed to "meet for a direct, republican dialogue to jointly examine ways out of the current crisis."
"We will discuss in a spirit of fraternity and national responsibility the measures that can preserve social peace, the stability of institutions and the cohesion of our country," Boni Yayi said.
He still believes that it is through "dialogue" that Benin will organize "general, inclusive and peaceful elections."

Bon sang et la photo de Zuma fait quoi au benin ?
Talon est en train de mettre le Bénin sur les rails du développement économique et d'une démocratie majeure. Une véritable révolution douce avec en toile de fond une alternative générationnelle. Bravo.
