Libye: Seif al-Islam Kadhafi, l'un des fils du dictateur défunt, tué par des hommes armés
Long seen as his father's potential successor before the regime fell in 2011, the 53-year-old was assassinated by four gunmen, Abdullah Othman Abdurrahim told Libya al-Ahrar.
They "stormed Seif al-Islam Gaddafi's residence after disabling the surveillance cameras, then executed him," the channel on X wrote, quoting his words.
This same advisor had previously indicated that he had died in a Facebook post, without further details.
"Dr. Seif al-Islam has fallen as a martyr," his cousin, Hamid Gaddafi, told the same channel by telephone. "We have no further information," he added.
According to several media outlets, he died south of the city of Zenten, in western Libya.
Seif al-Islam had cultivated an image of a moderate and reformer. A reputation that crumbled when he promised bloodshed at the start of the rebellion.
Wanted by the ICC for crimes against humanity, he was arrested in southern Libya. Long detained in Zintan, he was sentenced to death in 2015 following a summary trial before being granted amnesty.
Until the announcement of his death, his whereabouts were unknown. In 2021, despite being wanted by authorities, he had submitted his candidacy for the presidential election, counting on the support of those nostalgic for the old regime.
The election ultimately did not take place.
According to expert Emad Badi, the death of Seif al-Islam Gaddafi is "likely to transform him into a martyr in the eyes of a significant part of the population, while also altering the electoral balance by removing a major obstacle to the presidential election."
Because "his candidacy and his chances of success (had) been a central point of controversy," he explained on X.
Former spokesman for the Gaddafi regime, Moussa Ibrahim, denounced a "perfidious" act, stating that he had spoken to him two days ago.
"He wanted a united and sovereign Libya, safe for all its inhabitants. They murdered hope and the future, and sowed hatred and resentment," he wrote on X.
Since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi, Libya has struggled to regain its stability and unity.
Two executives are vying for power: the Government of National Accord (GNU) based in Tripoli, led by Abdelhamid Dbeibah and recognized by the UN; and an executive in Benghazi (east), controlled by Marshal Haftar and his sons who have extended their military presence to the south of the country.

Alors il a dresse' le peuple lybien contre Khadafi, et avec son appui et celui de Obama ( les americains vont la' ou' il ya de precieuses resources minieres ( la Lybie ayant les plus grandes reserves de petrole[ 48 milliards de barils) qui a fourni le materiel sophistique' ( Obama) pour l,accomplishment de la mission du renversement du regime de khadafi et de son assassinat.et certes, ils y ont reussi mais voici les derniers mots de khadafi a' son peuple avec qui il a toujours patarge' les petro dollars (ainsi qu avec tout africain et musulman): " vous allez me tuer ,[sauvagement meme], avec son jeune fils, toujours arme' a'cote' de lui, mais vous allez souffrir Tres vrai, depuis lors, la lybie est une armee mexicaine. Every body is General, ils s,entretuent a' longueur de journee, chaque groupe rebelle se l,auteur de la " "victoire" et des lors doit avoir la plus grande part du "gateau" N,empeche que depuis lors Sarkozy est dans le petrin.
