Senegal showed no signs of nerves against Botswana. On the contrary, the Lions controlled the match from start to finish, winning 3-0 thanks to a brace from Nicolas Jackson and a goal from Chérif Ndiaye.
Here are the best and worst.
Idrissa Gana Gueye: Simple and effective. With understated elegance, the 36-year-old perfectly controlled the midfield. Gana dictated the tempo of the match with incisive passes. The Senegalese player completed 96 accurate passes during the game, 78 of them in Botswana's half. The Senegalese midfielder also found the passes needed to break down the Botswana defense. He was the one who set up Nicolas Jackson for his missed one-on-one early in the match, then brilliantly played in Cheikh Sabaly for the Lions' third goal. Gana Gueye also tirelessly worked to thwart opposition counter-attacks. He recovered 10 balls, the most of any of the 22 players. A truly commanding performance!
Iliman Ndiaye: It feels like we're repeating ourselves, but the Everton player is the light of the Senegalese game. Something happens every time he touches the ball. He could have provided an assist if his teammates had been more clinical, and scored if Sadio Mané had been more selfless. He left the pitch visibly angry, certainly frustrated with the Senegalese number 10, who should have passed him a through ball.
Nicolas Jackson: Heavily criticized before the AFCON, Nicolas Jackson delivered. He scored a brace, even though he could have netted four. But with his two goals, he unlocked the situation for the Lions and allowed Pape Thiaw's men to get their AFCON campaign off to a good start. His second goal, a combination of right and left foot, was a marvel.
The flops
Sadio Mané: This wasn't one of his worst matches for Senegal, far from it, but Sadio Mané should have done better. Given his level, the Lions' star should never have left the pitch without scoring. Indeed, Sadio Mané had several clear chances to increase the lead, but lacked composure. He also made a poor decision in the 68th minute, choosing to shoot from a tight angle instead of passing to Iliman Ndiaye, who was alone in front of goal. He left the pitch disappointed with himself, knowing full well he could have done much better.
Kalidou Koulibaly: Like Sadio Mané, Koulibaly didn't have a bad game. But the Lions' captain sometimes seemed hesitant, as evidenced by the silly free kicks he gave Botswana early in the match. Koulibaly also made a few errors in anticipation, getting caught out by his direct opponent. In the 59th minute, a technical lapse on his part gave Botswana their first scoring opportunity, but Kebatho's shot went over Edouard Mendy's goal. He recovered immediately afterward, with interceptions worthy of his status.

Merci sadio pour tout mais it's time to be on the bench.
A bon entendeur salut,..
Merci
