The Federation of Islamic Associations of Burkina Faso (FAIB) announced last Tuesday the arrest of Imam Mohamed Ishaq Kindo. The religious leader had reportedly publicly expressed his opposition to a proposed law aimed at regulating religious practice within the public administration. His arrest sparked protests in the Burkinabe capital, Ouagadougou.
Subsequently, a statement attributed to the prosecutor of Faso at the Ouaga II High Court announced the imam's death. This is false.
In any case, that's what we gather from a note published yesterday, Wednesday, by the prosecutor. He specifies in the document that this statement attributed to him "does not originate from any judicial authority within his jurisdiction."
"This is the work of criminals," continued the man in the toga, who called on the population to be vigilant regarding such statements.
"The judicial police services have been instructed to conduct systematic investigations to identify the authors (of this false statement), their accomplices and all those who share these publications, so that they may face the full force of the law," the prosecutor also informed.
