Tchad : Mahamat Idriss Déby promulgue une Constitution élargissant ses pouvoirs

On October 8, 2025, Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno promulgated the constitutional revision adopted five days earlier by Congress, paving the way for a seven-year presidential term, renewable without limit.

The reform also removes the incompatibility between the presidential office and membership in a political party.

For some opposition MPs, this revision represents a "forced passage" intended to strengthen the personal power of the head of state.
