Tentative d’émigration clandestine déjouée à Abéné : seize candidats interpellés par la gendarmerie
The fight against illegal immigration continues with firm resolve on the Senegalese coast. This Sunday, April 27, officers from the Kafountine local brigade thwarted an attempted departure from the fishing pier in Abéné, in the Bignona department.
According to security sources, sixteen (16) would-be migrants were apprehended at the scene as they were preparing to set sail. The group consisted of four Senegalese nationals and twelve Gambian citizens. Among the Gambians were six men, five women, and a six-year-old girl, highlighting the concerning presence of families in these perilous attempts.
This operation is part of the strengthening of surveillance systems along the coastline, which in recent years has become a frequent starting point for candidates for irregular emigration, particularly towards the Canary Islands.
Those arrested were taken to the gendarmerie for questioning. Authorities are particularly interested in identifying the organizers of this clandestine crossing, often orchestrated by smuggling networks.
Through this intervention, the national gendarmerie reaffirms its determination to combat this phenomenon, while calling on the population to be vigilant and to collaborate in order to stem these high-risk departures.
