Massacre de Thiaroye : Un livre sur les circonstances du drame sera remis au président Diomaye, ce jeudi

One year after the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Thiaroye massacre, the Senegalese Riflemen Commemoration Committee announces the official submission of the white paper on the Thiaroye massacre, tomorrow, Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 4:30 p.m., to the President of the Republic.

According to a press release from the Government Information and Communication Office (Bic-Gouv), this solemn ceremony marks an important step in the preservation and transmission of African and global collective memory.

The result of rigorous research, documentation and consultation, this white paper aims to shed light on the circumstances of the massacre of December 1, 1944, to honor the memory of the victims and to promote shared historical recognition between the nations concerned.

The Thiaroye massacre, which occurred at the end of the Second World War, remains a tragic and seminal episode in the history of African veterans. The publication of this white paper is part of ongoing efforts to restore historical truth and pay tribute to the Senegalese riflemen who fell for freedom.
