Commerce sénégalais en chute libre : -32,6 % au 2e trimestre 2025
According to the WAEMU Regional Economic Outlook, trade turnover in Senegal fell by 32.6% in the second quarter of 2025 compared to the previous quarter. This contraction was particularly marked in the sectors of "trade and repair of automobiles and motorcycles" (-39.8%), "wholesale trade" (-33.5%), and "retail trade" (-31.6%).
Year-on-year, the index fell by 32.1%. Services showed a more moderate decline of 4.0% over the same period, thanks to the good performance of the sub-branches "postal and courier activities" (-75.1%), "audio and video production: television, cinema and sound" (-41.4%), "research and development" (-37.5%), and "other specialized scientific and technical activities" (-24.8%).
Over one year, however, the services index increased by 5.7%.
These data highlight the persistent challenges facing the Senegalese economy, despite overall growth of 6.3% projected for 2025 in the WAEMU.
